Whether you're doing the whole of the Savannahlander Outback Rail Experience or just a portion, why not spend some time before or after your rail experience in Kuranda, The Village In The Rainforest

You can arrange these Kuranda Packages when you book your trip on the Savannahlander or separately by contacting Melissa Clinton, the owner of Kuranda Villas direct.  These packages are subject to availability of accommodation and tour places.  Alternative accommodation in Kuranda may be arranged.

The Savannahlander Outback Rail Experience leaves Cairns every Wednesday, picking up passengers in Kuranda at about 8 am, and then returning to Cairns on Saturday, dropping off passengers in Kuranda at 5 pm, (3rd March to 15th December).  


Option 1 - Arrive in Kuranda Wednesday morning (2 DAYS 1 NIGHT)

Wednesday morning

After the Savannahlander’s Mareeba Half Day Trip take the bus to Kuranda and check-in to Kuranda Villas.  Spend the day leisurely exploring Kuranda.

Wednesday afternoon

Be taken on a Night Wildlife Safari by Wildlife Explorer, a World Heritage registered tour operator and professional wildlife guide departing 3.30 pm from Kuranda Villas. 

Late afternoon start to see playtpus, wallabies, tree-kangaroos, birds and turtles;

After dinner at a beautiful riverside rainforest setting, we explore typical Australian eucalyptus country looking for wallabies, kangaroos, possums, gliders and a range of other wildlife;

We then ascend into the high-altitude cloud-forests where we encounter the highest diversity of wildlife in Australia, including species only found here.

Typical sightings on the Night Wildlife Safari may include platypus, a variety of wallabies and kangaroos including tree-kangaroos, grey kangaroos and the endangered northern bettong, a number of rare tropical possums, gliders, bandicoots, the carnivorous norther quoll, echidna, birds including owls, pythons, frogs bats and more. 

The tour includes dinner, transport to and from your accommodation and any specialist equipment required.  Return to Kuranda Villas at approximately 10.30 pm.
