There are so many exciting attractions to experience in Kuranda and on the Atherton Tableland that it makes sense to spend a few days enjoying life in this glorious part of the world.

Trans North Bus Service runs buses from Cairns to Kuranda for $4.00 each way.  Visitors arriving in the village via the Savannahlander Train, Kuranda Scenic Railway or Skyrail Rainforest Cableway have only a 5 minute walk to our Villas.

We use energy-efficient light globes, and appliances, environmentally-friendly cleaning products and low-flow shower heads and toilets (standard dual flush here in Australia). Each villa has been tastefully decorated and includes those extras which make a stay perfectly comfortable, like locally grown and roasted coffee from the Kuranda Coffee Republic.  Both self-contained villas feature an outdoor seating and barbecue area, the optimum way to enjoy the small lush tropical gardens. You will be enchanted by the abundance of native birds feeding on a variety of flowering trees and shrubs.  A compost bin is provided in the garden so that guests can dispose of their fruit and vegetable matter, crushed egg shells, tea bags and coffee grounds.

Kuranda was founded in 1876 and inhabited by the Djabugay aboriginal people. Tourism began in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century when it became known as Kuranda The Beautiful by the thousands of tourists who came to Far North Queensland.

The village is located in the rainforest 330 metres above sea level in the Cairns Highlands. The climate is cooler and much less humid and just 30 km from Cairns up the scenic Kuranda Range Road with views overlooking the Great Barrier Reef.  It is a place to explore and enjoy in all seasons.

Kuranda is surrounded by World Heritage listed wet tropics rainforest with approximately 1,200 species of flowering plants, 800 of which are rainforest trees.

The Cairns Highlands, also known as the Atherton Tablelands, is the bird watching capital of Australia.  There are over 430 bird species in the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef making Kuranda Villas the perfect base for bird watching and wildlife tours.  If you're a keen birdwatcher Kuranda Villas is a great base from where you can explore the many bird trails of Tropical Queensland.  Go to www.birdingtropicalaustralia.com.au for more information.

If you're after a truly memorable wildlife tour then consider a trip with Wildlife Explorer, a family-owned business in Kuranda.  Wildlife Explorer is a fully accredited Ecotourism tour operator taking small groups exploring in the World Heritage rainforests of Tropical North Queensland.  Mention you're staying at Kuranda Villas a to receive a 20% discount on tours.  Take a look at their website at www.wildlifeexplorer.com.au for more information.

Kuranda MagnaPool - the swimming pool in the rainforest.  A MagnaPool system is an environmentally-friendly and healthy alternative to traditional saltwater pools.   The key component mineral is magnesium chloride, which works as a natural clarifier and antiseptic, killing bacteria and therefore the need for other sanitisers is greatly reduced.  There is no smell or chlorine in the air or on your skin and it's as close to swimming in natural mineral baths as you could get in a safe commercial environment. Click for Google Map to Kuranda Aquatic Centre.
